National Lutheran Choir Celebrates All-Saints at Gustavus

The National Lutheran Choir, under the direction of David Cherwien, will perform its annual All Saints concert, Kyrie: Journey to Light, on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 7:00 pm, in Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. Tickets are available in advance by calling 612-722-2301 or online at Group rates are available. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Pfaltzgraff Guest Recital Friday

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present Wartburg College professor of music Brian Pfaltzgraff and pianist Carita Pfaltzgraff in a guest artist recital on Friday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Pfaltzgraff recital will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Esther Wang Recital Sunday

Gustavus pianist Esther Wang will present a recital of works by Bach, Poulenc, Doug Opel and Steven Rydberg on Sunday, October 30 at 3:30 p.m. Wang's faculty piano recital will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

Gustavus OcTUBAfest Saturday

Gustavus' annual OcTUBAfest, featuring compositions for tuba and euphonium by student musicians, will hit the Jussi Björling stage at 7:30 p.m., on Saturday, October 29. Saturday's concert includes six new compositions by Gustavus students. The performance is free and open to the public.

Schaefer Gallery Hosts McCready ’02 “Observation Deck” Exhibition

The Department of Art/Art History and the Office of Alumni Relations is pleased to sponsor Observation Deck, a Schaefer Gallery exhibit of works by alumni artist Megan McCready, Gustavus Class of 2002. The McCready Exhibition opens in Schaefer Gallery on October 27 and runs through November 20, 2011, with an opening reception from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on October 27. An Artist's Lecture will be delivered at 2:30 p.m. in the Gallery on November 3. Schaefer Gallery is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Hillstrom Museum Exhibit Featured on MPR

One of the current exhibitions at Gustavus Adolphus College’s Hillstrom Museum of Art, A Collector’s Passion for Dürer’s Secrets: the MAGJEKL Collection, was featured on Minnesota Public Radio on Friday, Oct. 14.

Berdahl ’90 Sails Guthrie’s “Pinafore” To PBS

Berdahl will be featured on the 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, PBS broadcast of this summer’s Guthrie Theatre production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore. Family Weekend Showcase Sunday

An annual event at Gustavus will be presented on Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. As a part of the Family Weekend festivities, the Department of Music will present its Showcase Concert. The concert will feature the work of over 300 student musicians and includes performances by the Gustavus Choir, the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra, the Lucia Singers and the Gustavus and Vasa Wind Orchestras. Although the event is part of Family Weekend, it is free and open to the public.

“New Secrets in Dürer’s Art” at Gustavus

The Hillstrom Museum of Art at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to bring Connecticut collector Elizabeth Maxwell-Garner to the campus to present a public lecture titled “New Secrets in Dürer’s Art” on Sunday, October 16, 2011. Ms. Maxwell-Garner's lecture will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Wallenberg Auditorium, located in the Nobel Hall of Science. The lecture is free and open to the public.
