Observation Deck Exhibition Works by Megan McCready

The Department of Art/Art History and the Office of Alumni Relations is pleased to sponsor Observation Deck, a Schaefer Gallery exhibition of works by alumni artist Megan McCready, Gustavus Class of 2002. The McCready exhibition opens in Schaefer Gallery on October 27 and runs through November 20, 2011, with an opening reception from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on October 27. An Artist’s Lecture will be delivered at 2:30 p.m. in the Gallery on November 3. Schaefer Gallery is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Observation Deck will include artwork generated from by Megan McCready’s daily observations of interpersonal relations, social and political incongruities and her own psychological evolution. McCready, a student of contemporary and post-modern sculpture, shares certain affinities for creating a spatial encounter with the viewer and forging an experimental, process-driven artistic practice.

McCready describes herself as an artist who is so empathetically wired that at times she feels “sorry for inanimate objects”. Perpetually reviewing and deconstructing the context of subjects such as consumerism and the food industry, she produces highly charged, anxious, ironic artworks using sculpture and installation formats.
