Nobel On Ego Sold-Out,Tickets Remain For Oct. 7-9

Is there a “You” inside of you? The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College, in conjunction with the 2011 Nobel Conference, The Brain and Being Human, will present Mick Gordon and Paul Broks’ On Ego, on the Anderson Theatre stage October 4, 7, 8 & 9. At the same time a love story and a contemplation of the essential philosophical and identity issues dealing with “self,” On Ego asks the audience: Is there a “You” inside of you? Are you more than organic tissue and complex chemical and electrical interactions? If so, what is “You”?

Melius Trio In Concert At Gustavus

Sunday, October 9 brings the Melius Trio and Gustavus pianist Esther Wang to the Gustavus campus as a guest of the Department of Music. The Trio's performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be presented in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The Trio appears as guest artists of the department. The performance is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Hosts Chestnut Brass Company

Gustavus Artist Series Presents Guitarist Mattias Jacobsson

Sweden's Mattias Jacobsson, one of the foremost classical guitarists on the international stage, will open the Gustavus Artist Series performance season with a recital in Jussi Björling Recital Hall on Friday, September 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through gustavustickets.com and will be on sale at the door one hour prior to the performance. Tickets are free to Gustavus students and are priced at $15 for general admission adult and $12 general admission for senior citizens, students and Gustavus staff.

Oshima-Ryan Piano Recital Saturday

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present pianist Yumiko Oshima-Ryan in a solo faculty recital on Saturday, September 24. Oshima-Ryan's recital features works by Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy and contemporary Japanese composer Takashi Yoshimatsu. It begins at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Björling Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.

Rococo Duo At Gustavus Wednesday

The Rococo Duo, flutist Jenny Hanson and percussionist Scotty Horey, known for performances infused with physical and emotional energy and a varied repertoire, will appear in concert at Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday, September 21, at 8:00 p.m. The performance will be given in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Minnesota Monthly Features Dancer Brian Evans ’07

Brian Evans '07, a member of the Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theatre Company and winner of Minnesota's SAGE award in 2010, was featured in the September 2011 edition of Minnesota Monthly. The article "Lights, Camera, Fashion" was a photo montage of dance and current fashion. Evans was selected along with members of the Zenon Dance Company and Minnesota Dance Theatre to model new fall fashion in motion.

Schaefer Gallery Exhibition “From Sturgis to Testy Festy” Opens September 19

The Gustavus Artist Series is pleased to open its season with the photo exhibition, From Sturgis to Testy Festy: Photographing Ephemeral Communities, in Schaefer Gallery (not the Hillstrom Museum) on the Gustavus campus. Mankato Violist Tyler Sieh at Gustavus

The Department of Music at Gustavus opens its fall season with a guest recital by Mankato Violist Tyler Sieh at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 16, in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. Sieh will be accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt for this recital which is free and open to the public.
