Gustavus Symphony Presents "East Meets West" Concert Saturday

The Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Music and Conductor Warren Friesen present the Gustavus Symphony Orchestra in concert, "East Meets West," Saturday, May 2, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Christ Chapel. This Honors Day performance includes appearances by guest soloists and Gustavus graduates Anders Eckman, tenor and Colin McGuire, violin. The concert is open to the public at no charge.

The Impresario From Smyrna Closes Anderson Theatre Season with a Bang

Carlo Goldoni's comedy/farce, The Impresario From Smyrna, directed by Henry MacCarthy, will close the Anderson Theatre season with hilarious extravagance. Performances will be held in Anderson Theatre May 1-2 and May 8 at 8:00 p.m. and May 3 and 9 at 2:00 p.m.

Recitals Set for Weekend at Gustavus

The Department of Music at Gustavus is pleased to announce four student recitals on the performance schedule April 25 and 26. All four performances are in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall and are free and open to the public.

Stimulating the Senses: Sensibilities, a Senior Dance Concert, Set for Weekend

Sensibilities, a Senior Dance Concert by Alexandra Ehrich and Emily Bulling, will be performed on Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th at 7:30 pm in Kresge Dance Studio on the Gustavus campus. Tickets are free of charge and can be obtained in the Theatre/Dance Office in the Schaefer Fine Arts Center or by emailing ebulling@gac.edu or aehrich@gac.edu.

Gustavus Choir of Christ Chapel Returns for Home Concert

The Choir of Christ Chapel of Gustavus Adolphus College returns from on its annual tour in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin to present its Home Tour Concert on Friday, April 24. The choir's performance, under the direction of Patricia Kazarow, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. It is free and open to the public.

MPR to Broadcast Tribute to Bill Holm

Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) will broadcast a tribute to renowned poet, essayist, and Gustavus alumnus Bill Holm on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. Holm passed away on Feb. 25 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Student Recitals Set for Weekend at Gustavus

The Gustavus Department of Music presents three student recitals this weekend on the Gustavus campus. Senior Cara Evanson opens the weekend April 18 with a senior viola recital at 3:30 p.m. in the Arboretum's Interpretive Center. Junior pianists Ashley Tibbetts and Azra Halilovic join forces at 1:30 p.m., followed by senior pianist and percussionist Nicole Parris at 3:30 p.m. in Bjorling Recital Hall.

Gustavus Jazz Home Concert Saturday

Following a 10-day concert tour through the Midwest and an appearance at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival, the Gustavus Adolphus College Jazz Lab Band returns to Gustavus to play a home concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at Jussi Björling Recital Hall.

Vocal and Instrumental Combine for Concert Sunday at Gustavus

The Gustavus Chamber Singers and the Adolphus Jazz Ensemble combine efforts Sunday, April 19, for a joint concert in Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus campus. The performance begins in Bjorling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Gustavus Jazz Takes Second in Eau Claire Competition

The Gustavus Jazz Lab Band, under the direction of Steve Wright, placed second behind St. Paul's McNally Smith School of Music in the college and university big band division at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival, Friday, April 3. Also participating in the adjudicated festival were jazz bands from Iowa State, St. Olaf, Hamline, North Central, and UW jazz bands from Whitewater, Platteville and Superior.
