Student Recitals Fill Weekend with Music at Gustavus

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to announce the schedule of four senior recitals, April 19 and 20, on the Gustavus campus. The senior recitals on Saturday, violist Mark Wirbisky, 1:30 p.m., tenor Brian Fahey, 3:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3:30 p.m., mezzo soprano Krista Nelson and tenor Michael Rueckert at 7:30 p.m., are free and open to the public in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.

Gustavus Presents Spring Dance Concert

The Gustavus Department of Theater and Dance presents the spring performance of the Gustavus Dance Company (GDC). This year's concert entitled Old/New, Fast/Slow, Movement/Stillness, combines a dynamic compilation of works choreographed and performed by Gustavus dance faculty and students as well as several prominent guest artists. Performances will be held in the Anderson Theater, April 11 and 12 at 8:00p.m. and April 13 at 2:00p.m.

Gustavus Features Faculty Trio Recital Friday

Gustavus Adolphus College faculty members Yumiko Oshima-Ryan, piano, Brian Buckstead, violin and guest 'cellist Joseph Rodgers will be in concert at Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall, Friday, March 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Works by Beethoven, Ravel and Shostakovich will be presented in this performance which is free and open to the public.

Erik Mahon to Present Trumpet Recital Saturday

Colorado native and junior at Gustavus Adolphus College, Erik Mahon, will present his junior trumpet recital in Bjorling Recital Hall beginning at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 8. Mr. Mahon will be accompanied by St. Peter pianist Beth Winterfeldt and joined by the members of the Christ Chapel Brass for this performance.

Neal Hagberg Presents CD-Release Concert Saturday

Neal Hagberg, award-winning singer/songwriter with the Neal & Leandra folk duo, will present a concert at Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, March 8, to release his new solo cd, It's Not As Simple As It Seems. Hagberg's performance is part of a week-long residency in which he will present a series of homilies at Morning Worship each day in Christ Chapel and conclude with the solo performance in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Gustavus Presents Flutist John Samuel Roper Recital

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College will present a faculty flute recital by John Samuel Roper, Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. Roper's recital will be presented with pianist Jieun Kim and bassoonist Ann Pesavento. The performance in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall is free and open to the public.

Mankato Violinist Mark Wamma to Present Junior Recital at Gustavus

Mankato area violinist Mark Wamma will present his junior recital on Sunday, March 2, beginning at 3:30 p.m. in Gustavus Adolphus College's Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Accompanied by pianist Beth Winterfeldt, Mr. Wamma will present works by Barber and Beethoven. The recital is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Presents Vecchione/Erdahl Duo in Bjorling Recital Hall

The Vecchione/Erdahl Duo, Carrie Vecchione, oboe/English horn, and Rolf Erdahl, double bass, brings their unique blend of timbres and tunes to a faculty recital at Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus, Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 7:30 pm. The recital is free and open to the public.

Baumgartners to Present Piano Duet at Gustavus

Paul and Helen Baumgartner, faculty emeriti of the Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College, will present a piano four-hand recital in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall, Friday, February 29. The Baumgartner recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Presents All Bach Piano Recital Saturday

The Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College will present a tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach on Saturday, February 23 in Jussi Björling Recital Hall. The All-Bach performance will feature members of the Department of Music, Yumiko Oshima-Ryan, Esther Wang and David Fienen. Saturday's performance begins at 4:30 p.m. in the recital hall and is free and open to the public.
